Immigration Dept investigates employers over visas
The Immigration Department says there has been a jump in the number of employers being investigated for failing to comply with the rules for temporary skilled migration visas.
The Senate committee has today heard that 20 employers have breached the visa’s requirements since July last year.
The department says 300 employers are now under investigation, compared to 190 in October last year.
The department also says it is encouraging Australian employers to stop hiring overseas workers who have been forced to pay exorbitant fees to migration agents organising their visas.
